Bankruptcy, jail, ruined lives: inside the Post Office scandal via @FT

Shocking story from the FT about the incompetence of IT Management at the Post Office. https://on.ft.com/3mf4yly
When we complain about what has led to Brexit and interest in simple message politicians like Johnson, what we're missing is how much unfairness there is in the world, often because of simple incompetence in the change of systems and how much people feel it.
The "punish lefties" stuff is often about this rage I think - if you think what the Post Office does to nice middle class people is bad wait till you experience what it's like to be working class and from Bransley when you lose your job.
Surely the answer is for parties of the left to fix these problems. To use the Post Office example: it's not privatised. Beef up the regulator, give them real teeth to punish investors for having a company that pays world class executive wages for substandard management.
If we fix the world like this then, yes, investors might be more wary of investing; and firms might make less money...

… but they also won't lose 10s of millions in compensation payments for failure and they won't be ruining people's lives.
The way we approach system change has to improve. Management of these things has to improve. One way to do that is to make it clear that there are big costs involved in not improving.
Will that improve the systems that affect people who aren't in nice middle class positions like sub-postmastery? Yes. I think it will... because we're in an increasingly contracted out world where this same callous incompetence is responsible for both problems.
