First of all, recording a Zoom class (let alone airing it on television!) without the express consent of students and their parents/guardians is in violation of state law regarding student privacy. 2/
I can't imagine how I would feel seeing my second or fifth graders, or the inside of my home, being broadcast after being recorded without my knowledge. Let alone how someone in a custody battle or other sensitive situation might feel. 3/
SECOND OF ALL. I am ANGRY that in this time when we are asking our teachers to go even more above and beyond than usual, upend all the best practices they've trained for, and do something completely new to many of their students, with only a few weeks' notice 4/
that ANYONE would be seeking out gotcha moments or ways to make teachers look bad. It's not MANSD teachers' fault if they have bandwidth problems or tech glitches in the first few days of using a new system. 5/
It's not teachers' fault that our country's leadership failed spectacularly to control this pandemic, or then to do the bare minimum to help cities and states cope with the effects of that failure. 6/
We would all love to be able to be back in the classroom safely right now; unfortunately, neither our Governor nor our federal leadership have made this a priority or done the work necessary to make this happen. So, we are remote. It is what it is. 7/
It's bad enough we aren't giving our teachers the resources or time they realistically need to succeed in this radically different paradigm... now some people think we shouldn't give them any grace, either? 8/
Well, fuck that. Every teacher I know is trying their absolute hardest. I've heard from administrators that there have been many tears from the overwhelming challenges and the heaviness of the responsibility they feel to our kids. 9/
I only wish that our president and GOP senators felt a fragment of that sense of responsibility. 10/10
