I have been away from Social Media for a while,and believe me that does wonders to your Mental Health.I just came here because I watched this amazingly haunting show on Netflix, #TheSocialDilemma .I came here to tell you that ,you simply can not afford to miss it.Its about Us. 1/n
Remember we used to be friends with lots of ppl before , say 2010.We were friends with people who had different opinions about things,society,politics ,Religion etc. We were good ,weren't we? And then we started fighting with friends,family On Politics,Leaders..What happened? 2/n
I'll tell you . Social Median happened. It was in good faith , to meet friends , family , new people .We simply got hooked to it. We still are. And then Tech companies like Google , facebook saw a window of opportunity in our enthusiasm...Advertisement happened 3/n
And we became the "Products" in this lucrative business. Smart Phones and Free Internet produced the bed of roses for these giant tech companies to embrace us , to seduce us ..And from the Users of the Products we ourselves became the "Products". We lost control 4/n
We lost control of our minds . We are now just a machine scrolling through the pages of our Social Media feeds, seeking validity from strangers , exploring our darkest desires & prejudices . We saw thousands of ppl like us. We started living in our "Imagined realities"5/n
Now entered Politics in this game. They need to polarise ppl , voters to support them. First they did was made everything questionable. Your history , Politics , Morality everything became "questionable". Now we din't know how to separate facts from fiction 6/n
They started planting their version of History dipped in ideology based on your prejudices. You started questioning everything you learnt so far because you saw so many posts , videos, people believing in them...Your "Imagined Reality" kicked in...7/n
You started hating Intellectuals who told you otherwise. You started hating leaders who had different opinion,You started hating friends,family because they had other opinion. Because you were being controlled by Algorithms .You no longer knew how to separate truth from false 8/n
You are entitled to your opinion but Facts remain same . Here what Politicians did was , made you doubt every fact that was known. So Climate change became hoax , Gandhi became something else, Nehru became a bad person and Democracy , Secularism became a bad word 9/n
With every prejudices they showed u thousands of people who r equally manipulated to believe in fiction .So you started living in that bubble of urs where you would watch the only News channels that showed stories what you liked,follow leaders who strengthened your bubble 10/n
They started making you angry,About ur past,ur politics , your society, the religion . Because angry , unhappy , dissatisfied ppl spend more time on social media or TV News. They are good for advertising . They scream and you clap. They make money , you lose your senses 11/n
AN Unhappy person is good for market . When you are unhappy with your cloth , bag , phone , you would buy the next one and the next one. So they constantly make you feel bad about yourself. They steal your self worth to earn more money . See the filters on SM 12/n
Its a vicious cycle that keeps radicalising you, keeps making your more angry,dissatisfied because then."You are a better product".It is run by algorithms that r designed to bring the worst in you.Can you see the ugly person they turning you into,with those external filters?13/n
Choice is really ours . Do we want to be the slave of that monster in our hand ?Or do we want to take control? Do we want to live peacefully or do we want people to believe that we are happy while we are screaming in our head?Choice is always yours 14/n
Get off Social Media. Reduce time . Explore real people , real world. Read to know the facts .Analyse before you post something . Verify the news you believe in . There is still time but it is fast running out. Come out of that bubble.Face the reality 15/n
Read books if you want to know about your History,Culture , Society,Religion .Don't believe in a random idiot on Internet.Use you brain .Interact with ppl who believe in different ideology without considering them an enemy. listen to them,argue rationally. Be A Human Again.(End)
