Small thread on Bayern's smart approach in the transfer market
Many people seem to think that Bayern simply bought its success. It's true that the club from Bavaria is the richest in the land but its biggest strengths are in its scouting system.
Bayern have made a grand total of ONE (1) signing that costed over 50 million euros.
The reason Bayern have a small amount of high profile flops compared to others is because they don't sign players straight away. A player is not signed after 1 class season. He needs to stay at that top level before Bayern makes a move.
Bayern didn't sign highly rated players at the time such as Pepe, Malcom, Bakayoko, Dembele etc. because they had not shown that they could consistently do it at the top level yet.
Another example are the smart loan deals. Instead of splashing the cash on names like James and Coutinho the club loaned them in and avoided paying 50+ million on guys that did not fit the system.
Vidal is an interesting one. Bayern didn't make profit off his sale to Barca but they got some solid years of service out of him and lthen sold the 31 year old for decent money. Since that his form has dropped off completely.
Thanks to Bayern's expectional scouting many key players like Kimmich, Davies, Gnabry and Boateng were bought for nothing compared to their current value.
Niklas Süle who looks like he will be Germany's defensive cornerstone was signed for a modest 20 million
Even Franck Ribery was not signed after his great 2006 World Cup. He was brought in a year after that after a rock solid season in the french league
Arjen Robben's transfer was a big gamble but his talent could not be disputed and the fee was acceptable
Even in cases where clubs refused to sell Bayern remained patient and even got some players on free transfers (f.e. Lewandowski, Goretzka)
Kingsley Coman, the man who scored the winning goal in the Champions League final was another product of good scouting. Bayern loaned in the young Frenchman and after showing great signs he was bought for 21 million
Leroy Sane, a player the Bavarians were interested in for a while wasn't that simple to sign but the club was patient and got their man for a good fee considering his talent.
The signing of Michaël Cuisance, who has the potential to break into the first team in the future, for 12 million and getting Kouassi from PSG on a free transfer could look like steals in the future.
There are ofc flops or players that did not live up to the hype like Rudy, Götze, Tolisso etc. but Bayern has saved enough money on other players that it balances itself out.
In conclusion Bayern are the giant we know today thanks to smart moves in the transfer window, not just their financial backing.
End of thread. Have a good day/night
