Some day an investigative journalist is going to write one hell of a book on the Neoreationary movement, its influence in Silicon Valley, and the funding and influence it clearly provided to the so-called alt-right in 2015 and 2016. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/rosiegray/peter-thiel-donald-trump-white-nationalist-support
Some of the earliest readers of my newsletter, outside of people I knew, were folks who worked in tech. When I'd ask why they were interested it was always some combination of having a co-worker or manager who identified as alt-right or talked about the Dark Enlightenment.
Dark Enlightenment folks are more stealth now but in 2013 they happily talked through their philosophy in all its racist misogynist glory with a TechCrunch reporter. Thiel is mentioned multiple times in the article. https://techcrunch.com/2013/11/22/geeks-for-monarchy/
These folks are still around, and building/funding tech that should terrify you. Here's a relevant @lukeobrien piece from earlier this year. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/clearview-ai-facial-recognition-alt-right_n_5e7d028bc5b6cb08a92a5c48
And yes, as the Buzzfeed piece reminds us, Peter Thiel is still on the board of Facebook.
