Being seeing that Polygon review of Rime of the Frostmaiden, by @Charlie_L_Hall, going around. This line seems to be causing a stir: “Even experienced Dungeon Masters will have a tough time keeping up.” And I think context is important.
I think, based on my reading of the book, that what he means is that since the book is not a linear adventure for a large portion of the ride...
...it could make people used to adventures like, say, Avernus, which are fully on rails, take pause to figure out how and where to take things.
I don’t believe, after reading the book, that this adventure is any more difficult to run than anything else, I mean, ToA seems harder to run IMO.
That said—and I said it on a podcast the other night, I feel the narrative a bit disjointed at times, because it is structured in a way where a few things are happening a bit disconnected from each other. And THAT may trip people up who are looking for threads that aren’t there
But I do not believe the adventure is any more difficult to run. In fact, quite the opposite. The opening chapters provide easy quests to get your feet wet.
Thought I’d put out my thoughts as someone else who also has the book. And go watch the @thetomeshow twitch video from this past Wednesday for more Rime talk!
