A great day walking around Ridgewell airfield with @GuildofBG
members. This used to be the home of the 381st (H) Bomb Group in #WW2 the group was shown the surviving sites by @TGTandV & @PaulBingley 1 of 4
Using references from people like John Comer who flew with the 381st & John Good Brown, the Chaplin of the base, we were able to build a picture of base life & the raids that were flown from here 2 of 4
The airfield still has the remains of taxiways & buildings along with sites of interest, such as the old baseball pitch which James Good Brown wrote about during his time there. Other sites of interest included where the old air tower stood 3 of 4
John Brown's chapel still survives and all in all it was a great day out so thanks to Mike and Paul for arranging this, especially as I first read Combat Crew 27 years ago and have always wanted to visit the site! 4 of 4
