If you’ve listened to the semi-recent @Training4Ultra podcast with @kyleRrobidoux and @ScottJurek and you’d like to get involved but think you won’t be capable;
Before guiding Kyle for 23 miles at the 2017 Yeti 100, I had no guiding experience, And I’d never met Kyle in person.
Every single thing I knew about guiding had come from a handful of emails from experience guides and a single seven minute video (I believe it was seven minutes) Kyle had sent me.
I remember arriving at the Abingdon aid station to wait for Kyle to arrive. My heart was pounding. Eventually I saw Kyle coming in, he spent a couple of minutes at the aid station getting ready to make the long trek back to white top.
While all this was going on I was receiving a crash course on guiding from the wonderful person that had brought Kyle this far. And then we were off.
After 30 seconds every nervous feeling, every reservation dissipates—all you’re left with is focus. I can’t imagine a more rewarding experience in the running community. What I received that day was far greater than what I gave.
I’m forever thankful for that day, for 23 miles of the best miles I’ve ever run.
If you’re on the edge, do it. If you think you can’t; you can.
