SVP always brings the 🔥, has me thinking about a lot: it’s too easy to forget that athletes/coaches are ppl that go through struggles just as easily as the next. ... Athletes are people, not super heroes and sometimes it can be worse. In the age where everyone has access to make an (often stupid/uniformed) opinion on social media/message board, it can take an even larger toll on a human or humanity. 2/8
...Whether it’s talking about personal issues, or larger social issues, we need to find a better way to have constructive conversations rather than shout “you suck” at everyone/thing one disagrees with. Issues are much more complex than what you see/think...ALWAYS. 3/8
Take time to listen, learn, understand be willing to have compassion and conversation over something you may disagree with or not even know about. That goes for all sides. In a competitive culture, we always look for “wins” rather than seeking the truth in a lot of instances. 4/8
...in the last 24hrs, I’ve seen this video and it’s comments, NFL teams trying to make a stand for unity and it’s comments, “never forget” posts and it’s comments. Some great and lots of disgusting. We train our players to “block out the noise”... 5/8
but sometimes it’s tough when the volume is turned all the way up and changes need to be made. I beg all sides to just be better and at least hear each other. The truth usually lies somewhere between the arguments. Like we tell the team... 6/8
... being better than the day before is usually the goal and a great measure of success. We can’t do this if we aren’t a great team and have honest conversations on/off the court and understand that we aren’t going to be perfect in any of this...7/8
Let’s just all be better for ourselves and each other. A long time ago I realized shouting at my players didn’t get them to perform or listen any better. Still holds true today both on/off the court. ✌️✌️ 8/8
