I had a very heated argument with my mother about women and the problems they're facing in the society and with their families.(2/n)

We talked about divorce, not wanting to live with their husband's family, wanting to have basic human rights, being a single parent, being a single women, etc.
I'm really grateful to have this conversation with her because now i know where the problem resides.(3/n)

My aunt wasn't having a good relationship with her husband and his family. Her husband used to beat her, threaten her that he'd kill her and abandon their two kids.(4/n)

6 years back, when she had enough of it. She decided to go to the police and seek help, before that day when i saw her, her face was completely bruised, eyes all purple, burns all over her neck and hairs snatched away from parts her scalp.(5/n)

He used to beat her so bad, that she had to undergo various surgeries to recover from the bruises he gave her with his very "MANLY" belt.(6/n)

ohk, so 6 years back when she went to the police station a very good officer who was also a woman, took her case. my aunt and my two cousins (a girl & a boy) were safely taken to their maternal's home.(7/n)

She was afraid to file for a divorce because of family pressure and their very very important patriarchal reputation. They went for a trial of 6 months in which he became a saint, and my aunt was treated like a princess.(8/n)

The officer demanded that proper legal action should be taken for what he's done but my aunt refused. Happy ending. (he still beats her but this time he beats her enough so that she can cover her bruises, such a lucky woman!!)(9/n)

Fast forward to today here are a few things i know about our society-

1. "You are lucky he doesn't beats you, he just verbally abuses you and is cheating on you, omg you are so lucky to have him, woman"(10/n)

2. "It's okay if he beats you, he's not gonna kill you, he knows his limits you stupid woman"(11/n)

3. "Don't divorce him, where are you gonna go, where are you gonna take your "woman empowerment", when you'll get old, you'll die alone, you'll have nobody." (12/n)

4. "It's okay if he forced you to have sex with him, you're his wife, why do you wanna charge him for marital rape. man, these women, then they'll come and play their "woman card" when our "BECHARA LAUDA DEVTA" cheats on her. (13/n)

5. "Children are their parents responsibility, its okay if a boy stays in their parents home forever, we need to worship and praise our "LAUDA DEVTA", but not for girls na, what if they become a "whore". (14/n)

6. "You are supposed to take care of his parents, it doesn't matter if your parents die in their bathrooms breaking their necks on the toilet seat." (15/n)

A woman who is suffering from domestic violence will go back to her husband because she's not financially stable, she's not financially stable because her parents thought graduation would be enough "ladki hai kaha jaygi bahar duniya me job karne" (16/n)

and all of this bullshit came when a girl was born, that disappointment her parents had because they thought her as not a child, but as an object which they'd interchange in the society (19/n)
