Hey guys, the thread is about 10 molecules with amusing but relatable shapes.

Their structure resembles shapes of real-world animals or objects.

Let's see some Shapy Chemistry!

Thread of complete fun.

1/ Cubane

Discoverer: Philip Eaton and Thomas Cole.

It was unlikely to be made in lab because of its peculiar shape, like a Cube.

Cubane is highly dense.

It's chemical brothers & sisters can be used to prepare explosives.

Fun fact: You can't play it as Rubik's cube.
2/ Nanoputian

Discoverer: James Tour.

They resemble Lilliputs in nano-scale, so Nanoputs.

These were prepared to educate kids about science with some nano-level animation.

Fun fact: They are iron mans in atomic level😂.
3/ Barrelene

Discoverer: Howard Zimmerman.

Looks like a barrel.

When illuminated with light, the barrel becomes a shovel. Structure changes.

Fun fact: You can't do oil transportation with them😂.
4/ Basketane

Discoverer: Masamune & Dauben.

A handy basket looks good in the nano-scale.

Twist an arm of cubane & you got it, a Basketane.

Fun fact: You can't carry apple in it😂.
5/ Penguinone

Discoverer: God knowsđŸ€”!

Nothing is fancy about this fellow except its shape.

It resembles those black & white birds, Penguin!

Fun fact: Neither of them can fly😂.
6/ Housane

Discoverer: P. G. Gassman & K. T. Mansfield.

A simple house without any extra property.

Squeeze a rocket on floor, becomes a house.

Fun fact: Yes, you can afford it whenever you want😂.
7/ Olympicene

Discoverer: Anish Mistry & David Fox.

Envisioned during the 2012 London Olympics.

But these Olympic rings represent chemistry.

Fun fact: Its image is black & white, not colorful😂.
8/ Prismane

Discoverer: D. M. Lemal & J. P. Lokensgard.

It's a brother of Benzene, a famous fellow😉 in labs.

The molecule is excited (or less stable) visits its brother Benzene (breaks down) often.

Fun fact: This prism can't make rainbows😂.
9/ Sulflower

Discoverer: Yu Konstantin.

Sunflower in nano-scale.

Does smell like oil but doesn't produce one.

Fun fact: It doesn't face toward sun.
10/ Fullerene

Discoverer: Robert Curl & Harold Kroto.

Exactly a football but can't be seen.

The discoverers won Nobel Prize for the discovery.

Named after Buckminister Fuller, the Dome architect.

Fun fact: You can't kick it😂.
