Concerned about #Election2020. One thing we need to communicate is that, initially, there will be substantial uncertainty. We probably won’t know the results that night (or even the next few days). People need to understand that initial uncertainty does not equal illegitimacy.
We’re already seeing efforts to undermine the perceived legitimacy of the election. When results come in slowly (and change as mail-in ballots from different demographics get added), we’ll see efforts to equate that uncertainty & those changes to claims of fraud/illegitimacy.
I think we need a massive, preemptive communication plan to educate people about what to expect in this election — info operations to confuse people about whether & how to vote, efforts to suppress votes, a longer wait for results, & efforts to undermine trust in those results.
