They both fell in love even though she was only 16 and he was 39 yrs.
On facing opposition from her family, Ruttie waited till she turned 18, converted to Islam for Jinnah, and then left her family forever to marry Jinnah, only with her dog and an umbrella.

Ruttie gave birth to Jinnah’s first and only child, a daughter named Dina Jinnah, in 1919.
The couple shared a few very happy years in marriage. However, Jinnah's workaholic nature, and his political career kept him very busy, due to which the couple separated.

Sadly, things took a turn for the worse when Ruttie got diagnosed with cancer.
Before she died at the tender age of 29, she wrote a love letter to Jinnah which is attached with thread.
