On September 11, 1973, the USA orchestrated a military coup to overthrow Chile's elected socialist President Salvador Allende and install a murderous dictatorship combining fascism and neoliberal capitalism.

Nicaragua's Sandinista gov't honors Allende at the port in its capital
Salvador Allende, Chile's elected socialist president, martyred in a fascist US coup, inspires leftists across Latin America, from Venezuela's Chavistas to Nicaragua's Sandinistas.

But the murderous US empire still won't let any elected socialists govern https://thegrayzone.com/2020/08/04/usaid-document-nicaragua-coup
Allende's last words before being martyred in the 1973 CIA coup:

"Long live Chile, the people, workers! These are my last words, and I am certain my sacrifice will not be in vain; I am certain that at least it will be a moral lesson that will punish treason, cowardice, betrayal"
Some of Allende's final words during the coup: "Workers of my homeland, I have faith in Chile and its destiny. Others will rise above this dark moment of betrayal. Know that, sooner rather than later, the great streets will open again for free people to build a better society"
Another important quote from Salvador Allende, memorialized in Nicaragua:

"Revolution does not go through the university, and this must be understood; revolution goes through the great masses; revolution is made by the people; revolution is made in essence by the workers"
Allende: "People from industrialized countries have gone to the moon dominating nature. Is it just that they step foot on the moon? Or isn't it more just for powerful countries to step foot on Earth and realize there are millions of people who have no job and suffer from hunger?"
The other side of the monument in Nicaragua's Puerto Salvador Allende honors legendary Chilean musician Víctor Jara.

The US-backed fascist Pinochet dictatorship threw Jara in a concentration camp for leftists, tortured him, cut off his fingers, taunted him to sing, then shot him
