I've spent over a decade selling consoles and talking to shoppers every day. The idea multiple skus and names confuse people to a degree that impacts sales isn't true

Only example was Wii U, but that was due to failed marketing explaining it was a new console not a peripheral
Phones launch in multiple skus and price points every year

We've had mid gen consoles selling alongside launch consoles on the market for years now

None of this is new for people
Nintendo currently have two different versions of the Switch on the market with radical differences (you literally can't hook one up to a TV) and sales aren't impacted negatively at all

In fact 2020 is the best sales year for Switch ever
So if someone wants to criticize or doubt Microsoft's strategy that's totally fine

But doing the whole "People will get confused and buy something else" is just a fable. It doesn't pan out that way in the real world
