Online teaching takes a LOT MORE WORK than teaching in person, because I have to recreate everything—like it’s my first year all over again. And it’s my 17th year, actually.
It also takes a lot on the parent side. My not-so-tech-savvy 12yo required HOURS of explanation and support just to do his first art assignment.

Following the crazy-but-I-get-Why-it’s-necessary schedule takes 400-Level Life Skills. That’s as true for me as it is for my students and my own kids!
Community building goes well in my classes of 20-25. But in my classes of 30-40? It’s a lot harder. I’d take ideas or recommendations on that, honestly.
Zoom makes space for conversation, but post-Derecho, none of us have super stable internet/sound. That is SO HARD! When a kid finally does talk, I want to be able to hear them!
....Most of all, I miss moving and laughing and playing and thinking and working and just plain goofing around in the same space as my students. /fin
