Forever wars, the Department of Homeland Security, the PATRIOT act, the TSA, actual Muslims, and people who prejudiced people in an outbreak of mass anti-Muslim sentiment decided were also probably Muslim ... beg to disagree.
I remember middle school classmates who wore hijab coincidentally decided to stop by the end of September. An Indian friend who got hassled by police for taking too many pictures of monuments in DC in a car full of brown men. And I was an 8th grader, not a Princeton professor.
If we can't accurately characterize and reflect upon extremely clear-cut events and sentiments like the post-September 11 mindset, how are we ever going to meaningfully recover from the past four years?
