Asking for help... a thread (1/x)
Most people don't want to ask for help, even when new to a job. They think it can make them look weak.

Add to that, being a female in a male dominated field and whoa.... def can't ask for help... or can we?

Asking for help is hard no matter gender or race, but when in a minority or a different gender than male (honestly, spade a spade) -- asking for help can have certain implications about your skills and abilities.

I am the only female engineer on my team.

And I have done nothing but ASK FOR HELP since day 1.

Don't get me wrong, I never used to be like this and honestly asking for help still makes me nervous AF... but my team (weirdly) encourages questions and asking for help. They are always willing to jump in and pair with me so I learn more and get better.

Knowing when to ask for help and asking can be the difference between making deadlines or missing them.

And helping someone who needs it can be the difference between them sticking with IT or them leaving the field completely.

Be a decent human.

Ask a question today.

Help someone today.

BE A DECENT HUMAN.
