We have heard concerns from people with learning/intellectual disabilities and their supporters about BBC Scotland’s decision to no longer routinely screen the Scottish Government’s daily Covid-19 briefings.
It is important to remember that many people in Scotland, including those with learning/intellectual disabilities, face considerable barriers to accessing information online.
In our ongoing engagement with people with learning/intellectual disabilities during the pandemic, we have been told that these daily briefings have provided a valuable source of reassurance and information for many vulnerable individuals.
We would urge BBC Scotland to be mindful of its responsibilities to all of Scotland’s citizens including those who are digitally excluded, as it considers how to inform the public during this ongoing period of upheaval and challenge.
