Spotted these weird features in an outcrop in W Iceland last month and still not sure what they are and how they formed. They look like tiny columns in very fine sediment (?). Any ideas Geotweeps? @FabianWadsworth & @subglacial?
The outcrop is right beneath Hengifoss waterfall, with these features in the darkish band on bottom left. That band is maybe 1 m thick.
Woops, minor typo. Hengifoss waterfall is in East Iceland, not west.
