I'm at Markobel on the Upper German-Raetian Limes route where 2002 excavations confirmed that Hadrian erected a palisade as an artificial frontier-work. It was established by dendrochronology that the palisade was constructed out of the trunks of oak trees in AD 120. #Hadrian1900
It was widely assumed that Hadrian ordered the frontier palisade to be built during his tour of Germania Superior in AD 121. Instead, the army anticipated his arrival, allowing him to inspect the work in progress.
