Good thread up and down. Want to add a bit to this on why this victim blaming is such BS, because I was always taught drivers ALWAYS carry (partial) responsibility for accidents with pedestrians or cyclists. Cars, see? They’re FAST. Much faster than pedestrians or cyclists. https://twitter.com/dublincommuters/status/1304344138347958272
And frankly there’s not a thing I, a cyclist or a pedestrian can do to keep safe from a car hitting me other than NEVER GET NEAR A ROAD, because I physically don’t have the reaction speed to keep safe. THAT is why drivers are always always ALWAYS at least partially responsible.
“But I didn’t see -“ No, it was YOUR JOB to PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS. You’re the one in the vehicle going faster than a person can dodge and the one with the ability to slow that car down. Not the pedestrian/cyclist.
Hi, I have strong feelings about who carries responsibility in road safety, yes. Roads shouldn’t be terrifying death traps for pedestrians or cyclists unless it’s, say, a motorway, and the majority of the responsibility keeping roads safe should be on drivers.
