Cannot express just how happy & grateful I am to have accepted an offer of tenancy at @Spirebarristers. I’ve had an amazing experience so far & I am so lucky to have been supported by all members, clerks & staff at chambers throughout #Pupillage. #TeamSpire #JFF #BabyBarrister 1/7
In the past I was told I would need to lose my Scouse accent to become a barrister. I was told I’d never make it to the bar. They were wrong. 2/7
I was brought up in Liverpool by my Dad. I attended a state school and I was the first person in my family to go to University. I had two jobs during my law degree and I worked long hours in a pub during my BPTC. 3/7
I say this to encourage others who may think they’re not the ‘right candidate’ for the Bar. 4/7
I couldn’t have done this on my own and there are SO many people who have helped me along the way. Thanks to all at @Spirebarristers especially @SarahEasby, @The_LEF, my friends, family and most of all @steg1231 & @Jakeating_. 5/7
Social mobility advocates like @_lesliethomas @PriorQC @EssexBarrister @Sallypenni1 @JoDQC @YLALawyers @bridgethebar (& others) are making the path easier & more accessible for women & those from non-traditional backgrounds to break down barriers at the Bar. Thank you. 6/7
There is still a lot of work to be done, but if you want to become a barrister then keep going, ignore those who put you down & surround yourself with those who encourage & lift you up. For now.. It’s time to celebrate
