In light of how the world has shifted I've changed a) the types of things I tweet about & b) the frequency. This one offers templates, thoughts, resources & advice from many brilliant people on how to write an @ace_national project grant alongside tips to navigate grantium. #010
. @FACT_Liverpool created a video on signing up to grantium, how to create your login, becoming an applicant (different to your login), filling in applicant details, monitoring info & make sure you hit complete. Your validation email should appear in 24hrs.
One of the first to share knowledge publicly was @RachelDobbs1 - author of the #ACECheatSheet back in 2016 - this is v1.3 of a Google Doc where you see all the questions, categories & character limits on 1 page (to write offline) & then input to grantium. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1n9XydD90p44OLFVgEGRI-B7yg0a_oYGFDv3Jz7g91F4/edit#
Sometimes it's helpful to read other applications before embarking on your own; Tate n Lyle (Paul Hughes & @RohanneUdall) uploaded 6 years of applications/funding bids/pitches inc. ACE ones to their website. Free to access & a model of transparency. https://tatenlyle.com/applications/
If you have an access needs & need a support worker to advise or write the application @ace_national can cover the cost (£400) of that person. E-mail [email protected] with “access” or “access support” in the subject header.
. @ace_national provide their guidance in other formats such as British Sign Language, braille, easy read, large print & in audio formats. This page inc details of their accessibility statement, links to other videos, sound files & their contact details. https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/our-open-funds/access-support
Bringing it up to date (July 2020) @_TheUncultured_ offer downloadable word .docx templates for both under £15k & over £15k project grants; they've also included a breakdown of recent changes in guidance from the previous format of project grants. https://www.the-uncultured.com/blog/july-2020-update-ace-project-grants#
. @daisthehale created a mind map about how they approach writing an under £15k project grant (with a theatre/development leaning); it helps demystify the process, translates some of the ACE language & enables you to focus on what really needs to be said. https://www.the-hale.com/single-post/2020/08/27/Project-Grant-Workshop-in-a-Mind-Map
. @theatrebristol commissioned Simon Day in 2015 to write the Unofficial Guide to Grants for the Arts (downloadable from @issuu); the advice is still relevant & will help you write an application without straying from the original purpose of your project. https://theatrebristol.net/applying-to-the-arts-council-an-unofficial-guide-for-theatre-makers/
If you're looking for tips on how to write, structure & focus your @ace_national project grant then @jakeyoh offers some useful thoughts (inc. precision, using your appendix & proof reading) in a recent blog post. https://www.jakeorr.co.uk/blog/2020/09/writing-an-arts-council-england-national-lottery-projects-grant-application/
. @thewhitepube have launched the Successful Funding Application Library (PDFs you can download & read). If people wanted to share their successful applications (there's a link to a form on the page) & they are happy to host & will redact any info. https://www.thewhitepube.co.uk/fundinglibrary
. @DavidJohnLane has written some tips to think about when applying for project grants & specifically Developing Your Creative Practice; @ace_national will re-open DYCP in Autumn 2020 & have increased the budget for individuals from £3.6 to £18 million. http://www.davidjohnlane.com/arts-council-funding-insider-tips-and-advice/
