Since I have covered 2 genocides across the world, might as well cover one which is personal to me, of Kashmiri Pandits.
Most indians would have heard about it in speeches/manifestos of the Indian Right Wing (Nothing delivered still lol, don't say 370 abrogation cz that was BS!) https://twitter.com/EshanKokkiloo/status/1304318643493199872

So for a culture to be distorted, the most important thing to change is the language. Post independence,Sheikh Abdullah was the Chief Minister of J&K. He started introducing urdu words in the kashmiri dictionary slowly and steadily. Promoted the use of urdu words in media. >
> subconscious conditioning had begun. Slowly and steadily more and more urdu words entered the kashmiri dictionary and now usage of it was becoming more common.

> straight from Kashmir's Chashm-e-Shahee. Names of places had started to be changed and made more urdu-centric. The clothing and patterns on it were more and more looking influenced from the Muslim culture. Then started the killings of Pandit leaders in the year of 1989.
Followed by rape and physical torture of Pandit women. The instigation of the migration was fueled by then Pakistan President Late. Mrs Benazir Bhutto,” The people of Kashmir do not fear death because they are Muslims. The Muslims have the blood of the Mujahids and Ghazis.”
Lakhs of people were killed and many more left homeless. What did the government then do? Absolutely nothing. They gave the homeless a shelter (the only thing appropriately shown in the rather BS movie 'Shikara'), with shelter I mean a tent where 3 generations loved together
Coming back to Sheikh Abdullah (father of Farooq Abdullah), he once said "Beithav̂ Raliv̂, ghaliv̂, ya chuliv̂" meaning, live and mix(referring to proletyzation), get killed or else run away. Existential crises was at max yet the pandits and their love for the land made them stay
On the first night of burning of housed and killing of people in Srinagar, most pandits were kinda calm and thought this is just a one off incident. The trust in the government was too high. One of my uncles who was a teen then, hid inside a rice drum while his family was >
>killed and women of the family raped. My family escaped somehow, leaving behind everything. I have seen pictures of my old house, now a burnt structure. It housed 3 brothers and their families over 2 stories. My grandfather who is a double PhD still cries over the books>
>he left behind. He says, "Ghar toh fir ban jaayega parr woh itne saal puraani kitaabein fir se nahi milengi" this epitomises the Pandit thinking. Intellect over everything else, probably why you see pandit parents still pushing their children into study oriented things only.
This in no way is a jibe at a common muslim person. It is about people in power who use religion to divide us and make us hate each other while they enjoy the puppet show.
END.
END.
