Today I’m working on the book with @MichaelRosenYes and I’m writing about ‘slang’ (a term I contest) and children’s social language. What words did you use as a kid? Which words and phrases are in your classrooms at the minute? (Small thread to follow)
When I worked with children and young people in Liverpool a few years ago, several kids used ‘Breville’ to mean a toasted cheese sandwich.
(Like using Hoover for all vacuum cleaners).
A frustrated kid lamented “Jonny, I don’t want Weetabix - just mek us a Breville”

With my East London primary kids, I’m obviously a fan of “Allow it” every time it’s the end of break.
