I've seen quite a few people post overnight that if you really like rugby £7.99 is not "really that much" to pay. A quick thread on why for thousands of families in Wales it really is https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/wales-rugby-matches-come-free-18915107
700,000 people lived in poverty in Wales before the pandemic. The number of families struggling is likely to have increased significantly since March. Food bank use has surged and thousands have been pushed into debt. If you're struggling to feed your family £7.99 is a lot
It is also not just £7.99. Over 10% of people in Wales don't have access to the internet (a requirement to watch Amazon Prime) . People in Wales' most deprived communities are less likely to have internet access simply because they can't afford it https://gov.wales/sites/default/files/statistics-and-research/2019-09/internet-use-and-digital-skills-national-survey-wales-april-2018-march-2019-207.pdf
If you want access to watch all Welsh rugby at the moment you also don't only have to pay for Prime. It cost me £80 to renew my Premier Sports subscription last month, whilst it costs about £40 to get access to Sky Sports and BT Sports
There are good reasons why the rights to the games have been sold to Amazon but it does no one any favours to suggest that the reason someone chooses not to subscribe is because they don't really like rugby that much.
If you want to learn a bit more about poverty in Wales and the impact Coronavirus has had then we published a report on this on Tuesday along with some practical suggestions on how we can reduce it's impact this winter https://www.bevanfoundation.org/publications/coronavirus-poverty-wales/
