Had surgery on Monday to remove a fibroid (just under pint glass sized apparently) and have been in bed since. When I first spoke to a male doctor about my pain I was told to take paracetamol as it was just typical period cramps. The second male doctor also told me this. On my
Third visit, a year later, I saw a student female doctor who actually sat with me and went through all my symptoms and actually felt my abdomen. She booked me straight in for a scan. It was found that I had a very large fibroid in my womb lining. I was told this explained my
excessive bleeding, which had gotten to the point where I’d become anaemic. I went back to the GPS where I was told they hadn’t been sent the photo of the scan so there was no proof the fibroid was causing me the pain I was experiencing. This is the point where I broke down and
refused to leave his office until I was taken seriously. I was sobbing. He referred me to Guys and then after a long wait, pandemic included, I was operated on. WHAT THE FUCK FOLKS?! I have received so many messages from people who haven’t had their uterus health acknowledged.
If it doesn’t feel right, don’t stop pushing. Get a second, third, fourth opinion. Solidarity to all others suffering and a massive shout out to the staff at Guys and St Thomas’ who, even when short staffed and under pressure, were the kindest, loveliest people.
