It's really quite funny to me that our Congressional leaders appear to "care" so much about protecting children online.

Yet, they continue to propose legislation, such as this recent attack on #Section230, that only serves to create more harm. (Thread).

There is a new trend going around on popular social media services (like TikTok) where people are showing their younger siblings or random children the livestream of Ronnie McNutt's recent, tragic suicide, just to record their reactions.
I probably don't need to dwell on how badly this can psychologically damage and traumatize young minds.
Earlier this week, Congress unleashed a new attack on #Section230 that would open websites up to liability for moderating content that falls outside of "obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, promoting self-harm, promoting terrorism, or unlawful."
Keep in mind that the reaction videos themselves don't quite fall under any of those categories (they're just reaction videos. You can't hear or see the livestream). I doubt anyone would argue that this kind of content belongs online.
Except for our Congressional leaders, I guess, seeing as they continue to actively fight to keep this content--the kind of content that can cause signigicant harm to children--online.
