Abridged email from @nzherald reporter just received now….”Hi Jenene…I was hoping you might be willing to chat about how you are doing now & put me in touch with others in the Covid support group…I don't think a lot of Kiwis realise just how bad it can be….” my answer...1/
Thanks for reaching out. I agree this is an important story to tell. I’ve recommended to the group to not engage further with NZ Herald. This is a direct result of us asking senior management at NZME on multiple occasions to take responsibility for the ’trolling’ we receive /2
when articles are published. We also have been subjected to misquotes, misrepresentation, click-bait & all of that has eroded our trust. Whilst I appreciate how the syndication of the @radionz story happened (I did not give consent to Radio NZ to syndicate my radio interview /3
with Jim Mora, I explicitly asked) - the NZH in spite of knowing this, still didn’t make change. I got absolutely trolled on your FB promotions. I’m sure you’re a wonderful journalist who simply wants to tell an important story, but the duty of care of /4
what happens AFTER you’ve written that story requires improvement. I note that @sineadboucher has undertaken some of the changes we have been requesting, such as no FB promotions of stories, no click-bait measurements and ensuring syndicated content is verbatim. /5
As a result, we’ve recommended that the group speak to @NZStuff if they’re asked. This might feel like we’re blocking the NZH, we’re not. Ironically when I complained, Shane Curry blocked me on Twitter. That said a lot about the NZH stance on this subject. /6
I continue to be open to a convo about changes NZME intend to implement to clean up their promotional activity & then reevaluate how we can make recommendations. Our intent is to protect vulnerable & sick people & ensure that they are not subjected to further unnecessary pain /7
You can follow @Jenene.
