A few days ago, I decided to design a profile pic and twitter header for @pheedbackco.

I had previously used Paint for almost everything and GIMP for some photo editing, so I knew that this would be quite a challenge. And well... it was.

Mini thread ⬇️
1/ I had heard some very nice things about Figma, so I downloaded it, watched a 15-min tutorial on YT and got ready to create a logo.

I had no idea on how to design from scratch, so I went to http://flaticon.com  to look for icons. I picked a few and try to mix them...
2/ ...only to find myself with a bunch of overloaded images, way too crowded for a logo.

Thank god we're a team and @janelSGM came to the rescue. We started working together on the logo and put together a few options.
3/ Time to ask our friends. Both @markbowley and @nocodelife suggested to go with the smiley, since it added personality.

Also, Mark pointed out that some of these color pairs were tonally the same, which made it hard to differentiate the logo.
4/ We weren't entirely convinced but we didn't want it to be a blocker, so we decided to go with the smiley :-)

By now, I already knew a bit more about Figma, so I took an illustration from @unDraw_co and put together a few examples for our Twitter header.
5/ We tried the designs on our phones and... everything was cut!

We then decided to remove the illustration and make it simpler. This was our final winner:
6/ Overall, I know that there's still a lot of room for improvement and we will probably rework our logo soon, but I'm very happy with the progress made.

Both @janelSGM and I agree that we need to work on our design skills and today we did so. It's a journey!
7/ I'll be doing a thread on what I learned using @figmadesign one of these days, as I think I have found a really powerful tool. Until then...

let's continue to #buildinpublic
