"in" or "out" of the closet is kind of a vague and not useful distinction to be applying to your social politics. like, these are categories that only exist because of social pressure to not be visibly queer, and that's pressure that literally everyone experiences
i think about closeted folks a lot in how i format my political judgements. from the point of view of a single non-psychic individual, there's no way of truly knowing the difference between someone who's straight/cis, someone who's in the closet, or someone who's an egg.
that's why as a rule i'm always supportive of people who aren't visibly "out of the closet" expressing queer or trans feelings, writing or drawing queer or trans characters, etc. ultimately, the only way we can judge this stuff is the effect it has on others.
the alternative here is that we draw lines in the sand where we say "you must expose yourself to this much potential suffering to ride." i dunno, man! i don't like that! even when i was already *out* that thought almost scared me out of posting my art online. anyway bye
