The trans community needs to talk a lot more about how BMI is used to deny necessary surgeries for trans folks. Fat trans folks are often ignored, so there's a lot of ignorance around this issue

A few addendums:

1. Weight requirements definitely do impact skinny folks, too, in regard to surgery and that should be talked about too
2. Yes, weight may impact surgery complications. HOWEVER This "requirement" is often used for gatekeeping and the waitlists for getting surgery can be YEARS. A surgeon should discuss treatment, risks, and work with the patient. Most turn you away if your BMI is "off"
