This morning @sussanley claimed on @RadioNational that Labor had rejected a framework bill.

But she never provided a framework bill. The only bill she provided was the one tabled in parliament and rammed through the house after debate was guillotined last Thursday.

I had told her and her office that in my view the proposed Interim Standards should be made public before parliament was asked to vote on any EPBC changes.
I also said this publicly.
The government floated the idea of a devolution bill that provided for the government to make standards at a later date.

I encouraged them to await the outcome of Graeme Samuel’s consultative process and bring forward standards at the same time as any proposed legislation.
That is because if broad agreement - across enviros, industry and others - could be reached on the content of the proposed standards, then that would make them more durable.
I have also made these remarks publicly.
The Minister knew the standards are foundational to reform.

In fact, when she released the Samuel report, she said that standards and legislation would be brought forward together.
She is also aware of our other concerns about compliance, enforcement and resourcing, and has done nothing to address them.
If the government was serious they would be working with stakeholders to produce proposals that could attract broad support.

Instead, they took an Abbott-era bill off the shelf, blew the dust off it, tabled it in the House, and then rammed it through, cutting off debate.
