if it's not on ethereum
i'm not interested
with the inevitable follow up to say that there's edge cases that should use their own custom platforms (for ex: @CryptoKitties @flow_blockchain ) but right now in 2020, you're shooting yourself in the foot by building your own chain.

just being honest.
building a consumer facing application on a janky blockchain with no users, no tooling? i mean, be real. you're gonna have a rough time.

every time i post about this i inevitably get pitched some project with great intentions, but i think it's doomed from the start.
i'm not an ETH maxi, i believe we're headed to a multi-chain world, but I do think ethereum will be the central node of it all, or at least one of the primary ones.

we'll get scaling through L1 and L2, we'll solve the gas crisis. some chains will just become glorified L2s.
i really do want these projects to succeed but we're having a rough enough time with a chain that has devs/tooling/actual underlying infrastructure.

good luck catching up. money can't buy you network effects.
so many projects promising faster speeds and throughput are completely missing the point.

nobody cares if there's no users and devs.

the first question you should ask is, does anybody actually want this? is this actually solving a problem?
it's like cool tech demos looking for a market that doesn't exist.

contrary to popular belief, only a few users will be willing to put up with janky tech so they can feel better about supporting artists. the masses will follow whatever is easiest.
in my music world, the only way decentralized systems win is if they are:
- easier
- more fair to the artists (artists join the platform because it pays more, bringing fans over)
- strong community that sets them apart
- offers programmatic pricing options
if you'll allow me one shill for the day, @AudiusProject.

it's small, but has a growing community of creators that might not even know they are using ethereum.
this is cool because all they need to know is that it's fair. soon we'll be able to price our streaming rates, for the first time in HISTORY. we'll finally have a free market for music. https://twitter.com/RAC/status/1300254133669117953?s=20
artists are completely fed up with how they're being treated and it's not a hard sell to move to a new platform, especially if it works nicely and has a growing supportive community.

what happens to a large platform when your entire source of income hates you?

they move
