just an FYI that when you check your Twitter DMs, there are three layers, not two
there's your inbox
then there's the "message requests"
then, if you scroll down to the very bottom of that, there's "show additional messages, including those with offensive content"

anyway if I don't know you and you've sent me a DM and you're like "that bitch never replied," please know it's because i just discovered literally hundreds of messages - only a few of which were rape and death threats or harassment from men! - caught in that filter
something I am working on, in terms of releasing myself from guilt and anxiety and expectations i cannot possibly meet, is coming to terms with the fact that it is not possible for me to reply to every DM from strangers (even the nice ones!) without making this my full-time job
but just be aware that Twitter's system to prevent harassment from reaching you will not only not prevent harassment from reaching you, but it will ensure it's like six months before you see that nice lady who just wanted to say "great thread"
