Why Deku being bisexual is way less of a wacky headcannon than you think and actually makes a LOT of sense: a thread
I want to preface this by saying no, Izuku being bisexual isn't explicitly confirmed in the manga and it probably never will be. Because of course not. This /is/ Japan and it is, worst of all, Shounen Jump. This is more of me making "educated assumptions" based on canon material.
Firstly, I would like to point out that Horikoshi already HAS a canon bisexual character in my hero academia. Himiko Toga. Yes, this is extremely relevant. Because 1, I'll be comparing her to Izuku a LOT and 2, it proves that Horikoshi doesn't shy away from repping the gays lol
btw this thread will be a very bakudeku heavy thread (because duh? which other male character does izuku display such explicitly laid out feelings for???) so if u hate the ship, pleasantly fuck off
So let's get into it. Izuku has always admired his childhood friend, Katsuki. And not just regular hero admiration. It's explicitly stated to be even MORE than that. To the point where he constantly imitates Katsuki, and always seems to have a reading on him.
Literally no one that admires Katsuki more than Izuku does in purely canon truth lol. What's interesting is that Deku admits (in katsuki vs deku 2) that when his desire to win overrides his desire to save, he starts to imitate katsuki's behavior without even fully REALIZING IT.
And there's Toga, who's entire identity is based off of the very idea that imitation equates to love. She expresses this for the first time to Ochako in season 3, and mentions it again in the mva arc. And it's explicitly stated that she feels this way for both Ochako AND izuku.
Her first encounter with Ochako especially takes a good minute to really ram that idea home. Which is weird, right? Because she's speaking about Ochako being like her, since Ochako admires Deku. But Deku admires Katsuki way more??? It's one of the cornerstones of his character!!!
Like, Izuku's attachment to Katsuki is almost a running gag at this point so do I really need to get into that? I'm hoping everyone is smart enough here to do the math and everyone has watched up to season 2 at the bare minimum. So, moving on!
it's very interesting that Izuku emulates Katsuki in the EXACT way that aoyama and toga describes a crush to Ochako. in the same way that Toga admires Ochako and Ochako admires Izuku and both crushes are confirmed, Izuku admires Katsuki even MORE than both instances.
And Izuku is pretty transparent about how much he cares about Katsuki. Praising/imitation aside, he gets pretty damn defensive/protective on katsuki's behalf. The only other person he's been protective over (other than victims) is Ochako. And even then, Katsuki takes the cake.
He also REALLY values any time spent with him, as he sincerely wants to fully rebuild their friendship again after a decade of being at extreme odds with each other. Even after everything that happened. In my humble opinion, that doesn't seem very platonic lol???
It's also interesting to me how Katsuki and Ochako differ in terms of where they stand with Izuku & where they stand as characters in general. Ochako is made out to be extremely lovable from the jump. Katsuki is definitely not. This dynamic is explored in the sports festival arc.
Ochako even puts a positive spin on the once negative meaning of "Deku".
Hell, there's been instances in side stories where izuku is partnered with the both of them. This could almost read as "two people who have Izuku's interest" but maybe that's just me lol

So, back to basics. It should also be noted that Izuku didn't make any friends in middle school, much less /female/ friends. Imo that is SUPER important. Because at first, izuku blushed at nearly ANY girl that paid him enough attention (tsuyu, Mei, Melissa, etc.) Not just Ochako.
The only person up til that point that had his attention was Katsuki. And sure, it could've been platonic, but you can't ignore the fact that he hadn't interacted w girls until u.a., and before that, Izuku's only blushed at Katsuki– according to what we know so far.
You could also say "okay, well he doesn't blush at katsuki /now/ so he might not feel that way anymore" and sure, ur right! But that doesn't take away from the fact that he probably liked him in that way at SOME point lmao. Bisexuality is a

I probably could say more but I'll end by saying this: if (or when lmao) Izuku ends up with Ochako, I'd like you guys to remember that dating the opposite sex doesn't erase your bisexuality. Him ending up with a woman literally does nothing to disprove my "theory". So fuck off.
In conclusion, Izuku bi because of course he is. Fuck heteronormativity. And have a happy bisexual month, guys. We're valid and we can see ourselves in our favorite characters however we please.
