@seanferrick I’ve been giving so much thought to your question this morning and I have some ideas I’d like to share. I apologize in advance. This may be long!😬

I watched TOS as a child after school. I thought it was hilarious! The sets and the costumes and the acting were 1/7
so funny to me. As a child I didn’t have the experience or maturity yet to understand the significance of the commentary on current society. I did not understand the impact of the first interracial kiss. I saw it through the eyes of my limited experience. 2/7
Years later when TNG appeared on the scene, I saw it through the eyes of a very different person - someone who had experienced a lot more life, trauma, and beauty. So it resonated differently with me. I understand the nuance in ways I couldn’t have before. 3/7
When DS9 appeared with a beautiful Black commander, that hit differently because of my beautiful Black husband and children. And again, my experience changed the way I viewed it. Same with Voyager.

Every iteration touched me in a different way because of where 4/7
I was in life.

When Discovery came along, I had experienced even more turmoil (teenagers, right?) and the struggle spoke to me in a different way.

With Picard, I feel deeply the pain of growing old and obsolete.

I say all of this because we all view Star Trek 5/7
from behind a stained glass window - made from our experiences and education and societal interactions.

One version that resonates with me, may not touch you at all. Or vice versus. But that doesn’t make it wrong or “not Trek” - it just means that it’s meaningful 6/7
to some and meaningless to others.

No one should be berated for liking something that you don’t like. Or for not like something that you do. Because you don’t know what they’ve been through to bring them to that place.

Sorry this was sooooo long! 7/7
