At a hearing in Frankfort today to discuss COVID and Kentucky’s response to it, several legislators were harping on the number of people with “comorbidities” who have died of COVID – suggesting that they were on death’s doorstep and COVID was simply what pushed them to the grave.
These are not intelligent arguments. If you are an adult in the U.S., chances are you have one or more comorbidities that increase your chance of dying of coronavirus.
42.4 percent of adults are obese.
46 percent of adults have high blood pressure.
15 percent of adults have chronic kidney disease but most don’t know it.
12 percent of adults have heart disease.
11 percent of adults have diabetes.
8 percent of adults have asthma.
6 of adults have percent COPD.
2 percent of adults have chronic liver disease.
So, if you have any of these health conditions, tough. Some of your Republican state senators think you're not worth saving. Suck it up buttercup.
