Doesn't feel like a great time to celebrate anything, but I guess I should do a tweet:
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of HEATED, the climate newsletter I quit my stable magazine job to create, with no guarantee anyone would read or care.
Today we have 30,000 subscribers

I created HEATED because I thought mainstream journalism outlets were failing to serve the public interest when it came to climate change. They were failing to cover it as a corruption story, with clear profit motives. They were failing to cover it as a full-blown crisis.
30,000 is still a small number compared to other big newsletters. But our community has punched above its weight.
Here's a small compilation of praise HEATED has garnered over the past year.

HEATED is influential in the climate world, too. I was never able to snag an interview with anyone like Al Gore, John Kerry, or Greta Thunberg, even when I worked at mainstream news outlets. But I snagged them once I created my own. https://heated.world/p/an-interview-with-al-gore
We're also making a difference. Because of HEATED's reporting, Twitter changed its ad policy; activists groups have started national campaigns; Senators like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have pushed for policy change; and Tim Ryan got kicked off the @NoFossilMoney pledge.
This is just a small taste of what the HEATED community has accomplished in the last year. I'll be putting together a larger look for Monday's newsletter.
