We are OCCUPYING the stanford police station grounds. We are going to be here UNTIL OUR DEMANDS ARE MET. Policing is NOT a public health response #StanfordPoliceState
We will not leave until this campus is safe for Black students and workers. We will not leave until this campus is safe for EVERYBODY.
Our demands: (1) Departmentalize African and African American Studies (AAAS).
(2) Divest from Campus Police: End the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Sheriff's office and focus on non-carceral alternatives available to Stanford affiliates and non-affiliates.
Disclose Stanford University Department of Public Safety (SUDPS) policies on deadly force, use of force, ethical behavior, and commitment to de-escalation and provide a confidential reporting system for people to document their negative interactions with law enforcement -
- subject to review by a civilian oversight board. Ensure independent public and county oversight over any police that remain on campus (this does NOT include the currently proposed review board!)
(3) Institutional Accountability: Create an official University-wide channel for reporting power abuse issues by faculty members AND campus police.
Develop a comprehensive plan with the help of students and staff to end sexual violence on campus, and develop a survivor-centered process to replace what remains of Title IX.
(4) Make us Tenants: Remove stipulations added to the 2020-2021 residence agreement, specifically around Class Action Waiver, Force Majeure, and Reporting Communicable Diseases.
(5) Health Care Coverage: We demand that Stanford University create a standardized policy across all schools that covers the physical and mental health care plan AND further subsidies of dependent health care costs for spouses, and 100% subsidized coverage for children.
Increase number of CAPS mental health providers and allow students unlimited CAPS support with full reimbursement for out-of-network and out-of-state provider appointments when in-network providers are unavailable or students are out of state.
(6) Workers' Rights: Health care and hazard pay for subcontracted workers.
(7) International Student Support: Hire a full-time immigration attorney who can advise international students and provide vision for university policies to support students in anticipation of changes in immigration law.
(8) Emergency and Mutual Aid: Give adequate supplemental funding to cover expenses during emergencies, both individual and University-wide -
- and promptly support the larger community during social and environmental emergencies through donation of housing, medical, and financial resources. Materially support community-led mutual aid efforts.
(9) Campus Climate: Make transparent and publicly available an annual report regarding racism and discrimination on campus. Hold a University wide Town Hall to solicit grievances and requests for actionable items to address and eliminate racial inequity.
(10) Reparations: Immediately end gentrification practices, including plans to expand into Redwood City and divert funds to supporting the existing residents of Redwood City, Belle Haven, and East Palo Alto.
Provide material reparations for the family and community of Pedro Calderon, who was murdered by police on Stanford's campus in 2002.
Join us at the occupation! #NoStanfordPoliceState #StanfordPoliceState
