I recently spent the day on a film set to observe stringent new COVID-19 safety protocols in action. Here's what I learned.

The simplest and most social aspects of life on set have changed. Craft services is no longer a delicious water cooler, but a single-serve zone where no one can gather.
The makeup chair is an exercise in masked precision, not the relaxed sanctuary of pre-COVID Hollywood.
The COVID Compliance Officer is king on set. Supervised handwashing, temperature checks, mask fittings and social distance monitoring all happen under his/her watch.
The creative process has been decentralized and digitized. Here, a producer observes a live shot of the camera beamed to his device, as opposed to huddling near the directors and producers in video village.
Cast, crew and artisans no longer travel in packs to create the shots of the day. It's a revolving door of layered craftwork with incessant sanitation. Meals are eaten alone in cars. This collaboration takes massive commitment.
