Today in weird 5G things: T-Mobile thought Verizon was launching its nationwide 5G network today and sent out a preemptive press release complete with a statement from @NevilleRay saying that "Verizon's claim of 5G ‘Built Right’ is the height of irony."
Verizon -- which is not launching its nationwide 5G network today -- is now responding. A carrier spokesman tells @CNET that he is "flattered that our competitors continue to be obsessed with our 5G network."
He even takes a shot back at T-Mobile, adding that "I suppose if our network was just criticized by multiple, independent third party network reports in less than a week, we'd be trying to change the subject too."
Needless to say, if these two are going at it over a false alarm it should bode for some aggressive campaigns once Verizon's 5G nationwide network is actually live.
Oh, and as for what set this off? It was a tweet yesterday teasing the announcement that Verizon CEO @hansvestberg will be keynoting CES 2021. https://twitter.com/hansvestberg/status/1303770148558569473
Here is the full statement from Ray in T-Mobile’s earlier missive (which was not a full press release, but rather an email blast to reporters).
