Twitter PSA: When you censor words referring to a sensitive/triggering topic, people who have those words muted still see your tweets.

If your goal is to make it easier for people to avoid seeing tweets about triggering or upsetting topics, it’s better to use the whole word.
Eg: If you were trying to help people avoid tweets about flowers, it would be better to use ‘flowers’ than ‘fl**ers’ so that they can mute ‘flowers’ and keep flower tweets off their timeline.
(Bleeping/censoring slurs is different — that’s a way to show that you know the word is a slur and that you don’t think it’s ok to use slurs.)
(Also, sometimes people bleep/censor words about sensitive topics so that jerks and trolls can’t find the tweets in a search. I think that’s a completely ok thing for people to do to protect themselves.)
(I’m not saying that it’s wrong to bleep, just that bleeping is counterproductive if your main goal is to make it easier for people to avoid triggering content.)
