suggestion: stop doomscrolling, open this thread and look at some plants.
these are a sunflower and a thistle. they're late to the party because I planted them in early July I think.

but this way, I get to have flowers all the way from March until October, which is neat!
my favourite weirdo (hedge mustard / Sisymbrium officinale).

It's finished flowering. The little spikes that lie flat along the branches are the seed containers!
The Ranunculus is growing like the weed that it is. I love the shape of the leaves.

Unfortunately you can't dry and keep them because they'll give you a nasty rash, but they're nice to look at while they're there.
the basil is flowering. I'm going to collect seeds so I can have more basil next year.

It's a pain to keep these happy, they need lots of fertiliser and the aphids love them, but they look good & you can eat them of course.
the lemon balm and catnip are looking much better after a good dose of fertiliser. turns out that some plants actually need that stuff.
The Hypericum is getting really dense, growing lots of new sprouts.

The yarrow is getting bigger but I'm not sure it's fast enough. I managed to collect more seeds so if it doesn't make it through the winter I can try again next year.
this is also yarrow, though these are growing much better. I don't know why.
