I've been thinking about Enrico Fermi
You know that physicist that's best known for his contribution to astronomy. AKA the Fermi paradox
One possible solution to the paradox is the Dark Forest. Basically, the universe is full of life, but we don't see it because they are all hiding form hunters. If you stick your head up too far (like blasting radio into space) then they find you.
but let's bring things back down to earth. The internet is becoming a Dark Forest https://onezero.medium.com/the-dark-forest-theory-of-the-internet-7dc3e68a7cb1
This is pretty clear to anyone paying attention.
And it's also clear that the solution is to build communities that are more decentralized, loosely connected, and self-sovereign.

There are many partial solutions to this problem.
Telegram, SMS, signal, discord, rocket chat, slack, etc ect
However, all these options fall short with regards to flexibility and ownership.

IT'S NOT YOUR DISCORD SERVER!
This is where @urbit fits it
Urbit is neutral territory where MULTIPLE tribes can live without getting in each others way

Simple, durable, and yours
That's what we keep saying and it's true.
That's what we keep saying and it's true.
Urbit is simple enough that one person can understand the whole thing.
If you take the time to lear Urbit, then you can fix it yourself and modify it to your own specification.
We can build tools of our own.

Because it is simple and virtual it can also be durable.
Imagine what it might be like to pass your Urbit on to the next generation.

And of course, you own in cryptographically.
It can't be easily taken from you and you are in control.

Of course, this is a work in progress and will probably take some time to come to fruition.
But for me, I have a nice little home in Urbit right now and it gets a little nicer every day.
Which isn't something I can say for the rest of the internet.
