A month ago today I moved to Sunderland, it already feels way longer than that though.
Moving across the country during a pandemic is kinda scary, so here’s a little thread of fun things to do if you’ve just moved to Tyne and Wear 💖
1) Ales Ales Ales
I’ve mentioned a fair bit that I love a good pint 🍻
(Follow RateMyTinny on IG if you're also a fan of pints)
I’ve already got some top favourite spots…
Firstly (and pictured above) is Newcastle Tap!
Absolutely lovely staff, incredible pizza and an excellent range of craft beer! Definitely a quality spot for a date or catch up with a mate! 😍

@NewcastleTap
Next is my local (although I'm about to move furthur away from it so it might be a while before I visit again) The Ivy House- right next to Park Lane interchange!
Incredibly cosy pub, if you like a good burger then you need to check it out! Also the beer garden is dog friendly🐶
Then there is @DATbarNewcastle which serves some incredible beers- when I went there I had a pint called Tranquilizer... needless to say only the one pint was had!

Very rock n roll vibes, was proper my thing, felt like a very cool bar to be in!
Another craft beer reccomendation- @btrbrewco By The River Brew Company! They serve in thirds which is an excellent idea as it means you can try lots of different beers! Definitely try Big Trouble in Little Gateshead if you visit, that beer packs a lot in!
And finally on the alcohol spots... The Purple Peacock!
241 cocktails 😍 and a VERY instagramable decor!
Definitely a good date place/somewhere for a few cocktails on a warm afternoon!
2) I wanna go to the seaside
I absolutely LOVE the British seaside and there are so many lovely beaches in the North East!

(Fun fact, you can listen to my little happy places soundscape here if you're missing the seaside and cant get to one https://soundcloud.com/the-megan-hayward/happy-place)
Up first is Whitley Bay...
There's an arcade (which I lost a fiver on 😟), a banging chippy AND most importantly a beautiful beach!

There's also toilets, a co-op and a few places to eat so its very family friendly!
Next, Seaburn! I took myself on a little adventure the other day and ended up with a morrisons meal deal just chilling by the sea! There's also the recently opened @stackseaburn which looks really cool and I shall be checking out ASAP!
And finally after today's outing- Tynemouth!
@SurfCafeTM is a really good spot for a pint and po boy by the sea! Proper sandy beaches and lots to explore!
3) Things to do
It's not ALL about pints and beaches (although they are the 2 loves of my life!) so here's just the beginning of some cool places I've discovered the past few weeks!
Today I went to @TYNAquarium which was lovely. I did feel a bit like a kid walking around by myself but it was a cute visit! It's cheaper if you book online, the staff are friendly, and there's a one way system so you don't get close to anyone!
Last week I went to @balticgateshead and really enjoyed my visit! Some proper powerful art and films being showcased at the moment- even with some of the levels closed. The very top level has an incredible view of Newcastle! Definitely worth a visit!
and finally, the true love of my life, live comedy.
God I love the @StandNewcastle 😍
Socially distanced, masked up, good times.
Incredible comedians, incredible staff. Support your local live comedy club. Please.
Its SO easy to get around on the metro, an all-zones day ticket is £5.30 and worth every penny! Definitely worth it!
Although avoid peak times (like 3.45pm when kids are coming home from school) because it can get REALLY busy.
Also the app Too Good To Go is proper good around here. places like Costa are signed up to it and you can get some really good bargains!
I will be adding to this thread as I explore more of Sunderland and Newcastle, but after a month those are my top reccomendations!
If you're a student like me thats just moved here, I hope this helps you out!
