Whenever anyone talks abt who should or shouldn’t be writing LGBT content for kids I just sit and think about how acceptance for LGBT content comes in ebbs & flows & how we’re currently in a flow & could see an ebb that would make the books we have coming out the only ones--
—available for the famine years of an upcoming ebb. That we should honestly push out as much sensitivity read content as we can because one day we might not be allowed to do it and all kids will have is our work from this mini lgbt renaissance we’re currently in.
I get so many interviews asking me abt how “things are getting better!” & “now that we’re all woke” & I just.....think about eras of lgbt acceptance in our past that came and went. I can’t charge forward acting like social progression is an incline when it’s really a soundwave.
Yes, I did cry when @aidenschmaiden made the list bc I love him, bt I was also crying bc that’s history that will be hard to take away. That’s something a trans kid might read abt years later, buried in a scrap pile of our victories,as they sit—bereft, in the devastation of an ebb
I am sorry to bring you all to acknowledge the pit of despair with which I am uncomfortably familiar.
I just read that Take we all saw today and thought about THIS and how bright things must have seemed to all these people. How they enjoyed their renaissance, like it would last.
