Trump has a lightning rod personality but policy wise has been a continuation of his predecessors, outside of W who is easily the worst president in my lifetime, with basically little change on immigration, drug war, war on terror, spending.

But b/c of the Culture War, which Trump feeds off of and fuels, he has become this “existential threat” and “great hope” that overshadows the reality of a deeply corrupt and incompetent national bureaucracy.

Look at the response to covid, look at the protests and the riots, it’s not hard to see that this system doesn’t work for anybody con or lib but only cares about making sure it’s ok and that it’s“friends” get bailed out as millions of folks go on unemployment.
