So much of Twitter "activism" isn't really activism at all. It's just a display of in-group loyalty.

(thread)
Because if people really cared about, say, anti-racism for an example, they would focus their energies on doing things that ACTUALLY change things in the real world.
They'd be researching policies, and reaching out to their representatives. They'd be diverting money, when they can afford it, where it matters. They'd be hiring accordingly... etc.
They would not, however, be wasting precious time and energy on policing people's language online. They wouldn't be conducting shaming campaigns on people who make minor mistakes.
The only real thing that is accomplished by that is a demonstration that you are One of Them. You're one of the Online Woke Activists. You're On the Team.
Personally, I don't care about that kind of in-group loyalty at all. I care about the real world. I care about taking actions that actually make the world a better place.
So, I just want it to be known that you won't find me bending over backwards to appease Woke Twitter. You'll never see me bowing prostrate with a profuse apology if I commit some minor, perceived misdeed.
Obviously I'll apologize if I *have* in fact made a mistake or done something hurtful, but I'll apologize in a way that is actually fitting to the situation, not in that creepy victim-returning-to-their-abuser way.
At the end of the day, I am *not* "One of Them." I'm not part of Woke Twitter. I'm not convinced I have the same goals or values as they do.
But even if I *was*, I still wouldn't behave in that way, because I don't care about empty displays of group loyalty. I care about real-world change. I care about backing up my values with actions.
I'd like to hope that I live in accordance with this principle, and will continue to. I'm always trying to learn and grow in this area.

Pandering to random strangers online, however, I can do without.
